World Fellowship Alberta North
Women Graduate students are selected to attend university in Canada through a screening process administered by members of World Fellowship committees in AB, SK, MB and ON. There are nine Canadian universities they may attend. Once attending, these students may apply for funding from World Fellowship International for a scholarship of US $4000, or approximately C $5000.
From the University of Alberta, which has 39,300 students, including 7800 International students, we received ten applications for funding this year. Once the Alberta North Chair receives these applications they are assessed using a rubric, by a committee of DKG members and the allotted number of four for the U. of A. are chosen. The applications of the successful applicants are forwarded to Austin, Texas for reassessment for funding. We usually will have one or two students accepted for funding. These students then will be contacted by Edmonton and area Chapters to be welcomed and shown hospitality. As the topics these women students have chosen as their field of study are relevant and most interesting, the students may be asked to speak at local DKG events. Getting to know them is a highlight of this position.
